Topic: Pozo riders commentary.. by Taty Frans
Hi All, I probably will keep you posted on who is who here on Pozo before the event start. I will mostly be posting on the slalom guys: Had been on the beach Yesterday in the afternoon and saw some guys sailing they not seems to be flying but their speed was kinda okay to me: Ross Williams: seems pretty fast as he has the smallest board Manta 54 register for this event and sure will be one in the top 3, he had seems to hold antoine in the back. Antoine Albeau: has register his JP slalom 92 liter as his smallest board, doesn't seems so fast as he is having some trouble controlling his Gears but you never know about this guy. he always surprise everyone top 2 easy for him i suggest. Robby swift: Well seems to be going a bit faster then last year, the way I see it he can also be in the top 10, but he need to keep focus and want to be in the top. Kevin P: Well I am a bit down the way he has been sailing lately, not so good results in the last slalom events, saw him sailing yesterday he seems lost or he seems to be think a lot, not so fast as he used to be with Maui sails.. :( But you never know with this guy he always surprise as when the event start. So on I haven't seen any one else as on the water. but I have just arrive yesterday so maybe today will see more slalom guys on the water. Taty

back from the beach: Cedric bordes seems to have great board speed he was sailing along with Gabriel brwone.. both have matching board speed seems they are enjoying it. It's a bit to choppy for the slalom guys at the moment. Pozo is of the chain. A LOT of people out on the water. Ross, Kp,Josh Antoine,Peter,PhilipVictor,Brawzinho,Kauli all been doing wave sailing. Wave seems small, wind is light most of the guys are on 4.7 sails on medium boards. No one is really ripping so far in my point of view. Philip nailed some sick tweaked pushloop just planing out of it. :) Well that's it for now. If you want me to keep doing this let me know or I'll just stop. Taty frans

Keep it up Taty very interesting to read. Say hello to Tuomo Naalisvaara FIN-3 if you see him on the beach. He is taking part to Slalom and wave. This is his first Slalom event. He is the only one from Finland really pushing it. Laine FIN-555

taty on the beach reporting from your point of view is great. keep your focus and the fluid style. to me it's like watching a really good guy at hookipa taking apart one of the big ones with smooth style, not slashing and cutting all the time. you're doing great. aloha barry

Re: Pozo riders commentary.. by Taty Frans
Hi Lain, Yes, I have seen Tuomo today When I saw him he was just heading out on his slalom gears, I said hello to him. Sure he looks okay in speed, jibing he looks comfortable maybe to much comfortable. he did some 2 runs with Diony but they weren't really pushing it. Maybe I am wrong but it seems like his harness lines are to short for these type of conditions, i am thinking that he might need longer lines that's for sure. Hi all As far as today goes, Saw more slalom guys hitting the water with slalom gears: Diony,Finian,Ross,Peter,Ben,Roby,Arnon,K.P,Alberto menegati,Cedric about 5 sailors that I don't even know who they are, looks like some new guys with 2007 and 2008 sails not sure if they will be competing but they seems to know pozo pretty well handling the slalom gears with no problem looks really interesting. Haven't seen any of the 3 muso france brothers yet. and also no NORTHsails rider on the water yet. Severne rider, just yesterday they where testing some sails out but Bjorn not looking so fast. Jesper he looks pretty busy with his gear not so fast maybe the conditions are not suitable for him..??? As far as today goes, My speculation still are high that Ross williams will for sure be a serious contender for the top spot he sure is fast. Finian the x speed record holder is flying, he will also be one of to look for. Peter, he seems to be having GOOD board speed and the jibes are getting REALLY GOOD he will also be a good top 5 if he really wants it bad enough. These are mine top guys as far as today goes. Antoine was really busy doing wave sailing, but nothing speciale from him. As I can see most of the guys that are on Tabou,RRD seems to be going fast. Maybe K.P is holding back, but I know for sure that these ISONIC are good in these kind of conditions, I wonder what secret or what plans K.P have? or is he not pushing to hard and charging to put his energy when the event start..?? Ow, yes also saw Angulo today he been ripping up the small waves here in pozo saw him having some small problems and was swimming to the beach BUT nothing serious maybe some gears problem or so. I finally got myself out on the water today using my 3.7 legend and my kode 86 had a one and half hour session. I pretty much went for wave/freestyle training heading out I was training my back loops and my airchachos and coming in some wave riding and some freestyle moves, was fun but the wind is pretty on steady and with big holes, some times you are power up and some times you are not even moving. But the conditions are perfect for Slalom for the first days of the event so might be really interesting. Taty Frans

Hello Taty, Thanks a lot for your inside view, can you please tell me some things: -what fins were the starboard usersusing for their boards (models and sizes) -do you use sails smaller than 3.7 for strongest winds and what size mast do you use than?what size mast do sailors use with their 3.3's in pozo? Thanks!

Re: Pozo riders commentary.. by Taty Frans
Alokin, I only saw K.p board with a debouiche fin but must be a 32cm custom fin. I saw some other guys today using techtonics and Toumo from Finland is using the normaal drake fin that comes with the board. I don't use smaller then 3.7 sail i use a 370cm mast on the 3.7. I think most of the guys that use 3.3 sail are using maybe 350cm mast or some of the prose cut of their 370 mast so that they can fit without have to make the top longer. Taty

Re: Pozo riders commentary.. by Taty Frans
Soooo, another day here in Pozo. seems that the wind isn't blowing like the previous years I have been here. Just came back from the beach and it was like someone put a gun on everyones heads to not go out sailing :(.. I counted about 10 guys sailing, Victor was out there Kauli, Ricardo, I think Danny bruch as well. Wave are not so big but there are some very long head high wave rolling in from time to time. Most of the guys seems to be on 4.7 sails. Most of the slalom guys are heaving lunch at the moment, so for sure they will head out on the slalom gears later in the day, but will keep you posted ;). As for me I am a bit sick:(, but nothing very bad. so I am trying to keep out of the sun and water for two days see if I can get better. Uhmm, as for the new 2010 sails brand graphics some of them look very nice, as what I have seen so far I have the : Ross Williams, Gaastra (manic): light blue/gray nice bright color and looks nice on the water. Gollito & Victor Northsails (Ice & Ego): BlackBerry/white like this neat color alot looks great the white really make the sails shine on the water. Gun Sails: Red/black seems to mach okay, from far you know That is is a Gun sail, very speciale in it's own way, like the graphics. Kauli Neilpryde & Robby (The Fly), White/light green and white/light bue. Very Very nice on and off the water. perfect matching color and looks bright and shiny. Well these are the sails I have seen so far. To me they are all great colorful sails. Taty Frans

Re: Pozo riders commentary.. by Taty Frans
Went to the beach in the afternoon and saw quit some guys on their slalom gears Best days so far for the slalom guys. Perfect 6.2 conditions not so choppy steady wind maybe some small powerfull gust but nothing so strong, because most of the guys wave guys where still on medium wave board and 4.5 sails. Jimmy,Jesper,Menegati,Ben,Gonzalo,Gabriel,Cedric,Antoine and many more on the water. Today I was very surprise and it sure was very interesting on the water with all the guys to me having been building up their speed.. Cedric man of the day he was really going fast I am very impressed with his board speed. he seems to like the conditions and he seems very happy as he came out smiling out of the water. he was really holding on Antoine at some points, but AA is just tuning his gears so I can't say nothing about that. I saw him crash bad and broke his harness ouch that might have hurt. Ben and Menegati are still tunning and are testing fins out maybe still working to find the best fin. had seem them not pushing so much. Gonzo & Gabriel the orange dudes:), In my point of view they are both sailing comfortable really pushing it. just the way I like to see people doing it. Gonzo seems to like his gears he is ready to go. Jimmy, gain great speed since last year, the starboard ISONIC seems to step his game up great to see him in the top. ooh yes, the first North sail racer I have seen on the water. My speculations as for what I can see now is that: everyone seems to have going faster compare to last year at times same speed but maybe one a bit faster then other. What I can see that it will come up to who have the best start and the best jibes. Here in pozo anything can happen BUT if you are mentally strong and really want to take risk you will for sure be in the top and a hot contender. Here the big guys have more pontential to do good but I won't count the medium weight guys out. even me at 73 kg in 2007 i finished 9th sooo you do the math :P :) maybe is because I am lucky but I don't think I was lucky. let me know your thaught if you have any? Re: Pozo riders commentary.. by Taty Frans
last day before everything goes down on the 10th. two days of perfect slalom conditions training have been seen here on Pozo. Everyone is here and really looks ready to go.. I have been in the house all day sleeping trying to get better. head to the beach later in the afternoon with my 3.7 and was no wave really choppy on the inside but it was fun, I could no longer stay in the house so I went sailing for 2 hours. Cyril and the twins are finally in the house. Wave sailing is what Cyril did when I was out there and so was Josh,Gollito,Thomas, kevin mevissen. Tonky was freestyling on his new F2 Rodeo freestyle board, The board looks REALLY cool, 225x63 and with 98 liter. he was doing some grazy moves. I asked him: Taty: So Tonky how do you like your new freestyle board? Tonky: I am very happy with it. it's crazy small but it's really balance and makes the moves so easy. I like it alot. :) Late in the afternoon I saw Jimmy and Patrick getting some slalom sailing but that's about it. Well I am really excited to see who will win the first round of the slalom here in Pozo. I can't wait that's why I came here to see it live and just to be part of the excitement in both slalom and Wave. As you may I asked why I didn't compete this year in slalom? Well Slalom when you are having fun doing it it's okay, when you become to serious about it, that's when you lose your self and you lose your concentration and you will start doing mistakes and everything is not working the way you want to. So to me I toke one year off and focus on what I felt like doing and it's important to me. I love windsurfing but everyone get to a time in their life where they want to dedicate more time in something else some thing which they like the most so whatever you feel like doing at times you have try to do it. I love Windsurfing: that's is why back at home I have: Formula, slalom, freestyle & wave boards, I do it all is because this is the sport that makes me happy and I feel comfortable and relax and when I am doing it. and nothing relax your mind more then the sounds of the water hitting on the shore. :) Well, this is it for today. Tommorow is teh big day. Taty

Hey Taty Your brother was killing it according to the Live Ticker. Gollito did not advance. How did Antoine Albeau do? Waves are usually not his regular event. How about Peter and Josh? http://www.cutre.com/v2/index.php/es/dani-miquel

Hi, Yes He was killing it in the JUMPS but his wave ridding was not so good. he did great. as they have stopped the heats early as there was no wave enough in the heats. So some heats where not run untill today or when the conditions are suitable for to do wave. Taty

Re: Pozo riders commentary.. by Taty Frans
2nd day of the event... WOW WOW AND WOW I AM VERY VERY BLOW AWAY BY THESE WAVE GUYS PERFORMANCE ;).. Kauli, Victor, Philip, Ricardo, Peter, Alex and Danny. The best heats i have seen so far are from these 7 guys. Best wave riding some of the best high jumps. Victor had a sick Goiter then went straight away in a taka the best wave riding so far in the 2nd round of the men and nice clean control jumps Kauli nice wave riding, some so so jumps but he is killing it with his wave styling ride. Peter very strong powerfull riding and had a nice double loop landed perfect. Philip, Best planing push loop i have seen so far, okay wave riding but he now nows how to be and do good in the heats will for sure be in the top. Alex, He really is smoothly now in the wave riding, great jumps.. liking his style. Danny, the wonder boy i should say, he can and did surprise anyone on the beach and won his heat, probably with an okay heat. but he seems to be holding back a bit but I like his wave riding and also his jumps. As for Josh Angulo: he did a nice backside 360:) perfect but missed the wave but still was REALLY good.. I think he's using some HPL or extream line booms. On the upwind side of the competicion area I saw Gabriel and Gonzalo slalom training, They look really on fire and pumped up to do some slalom. The orange TR5 mauisails looks nice on the water here in Gran canaria.:) Best race sails color so far in my opinion. Conditions looks more for slalom but they are stilling pushing it to wave sailing. tide is going up so is kinda sketchy DUNCAN is the one in charge so we will see what happen... Pozo is at his best great Conditions. I am heading back to the beach now. later if you have any question let me know I will try to answer them for you Taty

Josh is sponsored by Streamlined for booms and was that long before joining MauiSails. I guess him not sailing MauiSails booms says nothing of the booms. I also guess MauiSails booms and the Streamlined booms are among the best you can buy.

Re: Pozo riders commentary.. by Taty Frans
Hi All, Interesting day: First of all I am better again:) happy with that. Slalom men: All I can say is that my thoughts about who could or can be in the top was correct untill now ;) So far Bjorn, Finian,Peter,Antoine,Ross,K.p, are doing great results. From my point of view only Antoine is the one who has the best top speed, he started in the back of the fleet and just was already like 50m ahead when he reach the first jibe mark, as for everyone else they seems to still have the same speed. Peter: the flying dutch men, he looks comfortable with his gear GOOD board speed all around, he did fall in one jibe mark, but still got a good top finish:) keep it up peter, you are fast and your jibes are good. and Like I said, it will all come to who has the best start and the best jibe and who doesn't make mistakes in the course. I think that there are more people that can do good here but they get to nervous and fall in jibes:(. but well that is part of the mind huh sometimes it's to hard to control and be relax... but if you can find that then you will do good. especially in places where it is windy. Well back to the wave. I just went to see the top 4 guys go at it: Dario V.s Victor: Victor sailed really great and so did Dario. As me and Gollito where sitting in the crowd and everybody went crazy started screaming when Dario did a sick air taka in the wave just the best I have seen so far:P and really rippend each wave he got and was always searching for the big sets. Victor: sailed really great in this heat double loop planing out of it high back loop, push loop, amazing wave riding and deserve the win, in my point of view, even though it was a close call but Victor deserve it. Jonas V.s Koster: uhmm I am and as everyone at the beach was left a bit surprise on that Koster won this heat, We all saw Jonas sail at his best nailing all the wave riding move 360's, Taka's, upwind 360's and so many sick wave riding that left everyone surprise and also some great jumping that it could see him winning and went to the winner final with ease, but as it come to the judges he lost.. weird but we all think that Jonas had it. Nothing against Koster he sailed good but this heat for sure Jonas had it. As we move to the Winner finnal, No doubt that Koster killed Victor, This wonder kid really deserve this:) the most sick jumps and very clean wave riding.. thumbs up. Well tomorow for sure slalom will be on. o o before I forgot Most of the slalom guys where on 5.5 even Antoine. taty

Come one.......Come on I mean dang.. :( Not the best jibes I have seen in the few years I have seen slalom racing I beleive last year I saw people jibing better then this year. To many mistakes jibing the mark. Come on angulo,Peter,Gonzalo,Gabriel. I know you guys can jibe stop making small mistakes and focus and don't lose your focus. I have seen these guys easy being in the top 5 to get to the wi
