Topic: cams on TR-4 10.0

okay - got the rigging down
de-rigging - quick release of downhaul

2 outstanding issues - perhaps just part of "breaking in" ??

1) cams don't rotate fully on "other" side unless strong wind  ie towards zippers
2) bottom cam does not "pop" off when downhaul is released quickly - can i release that one manually first ?

am handy , but uncomfortable taking apart race sails and sanding down cams - as suggested elsewhere in forum AND local MS rep has no TR experience

thx for your understanding

Re: cams on TR-4 10.0

Hey Joe,

If the sail is new, give it some time before you start to sand.
Try and use first sailkote from McLube for your mast and inside the luff at camber positions (don't spray were you put youre boom) this did the job on my TR-4 8.4.

After the jibe it takes a few meters before the cambers click all the way through no biggie :-))

I let the downhaul off in one go after opening the zippers and dismanteling the boom, 50% of the times the lower cambers doesn't snap of but this never gave me any issues i just pull the mast out, usually as soon as i start pulling the lower camber sort of rotates it self of the mast.

Happy sailing Theo

excellent !

thx Theo for putting my mind @ ease.
good to know these details are all part of the "normal" functioning of this great sail.

thx Barry for the forum and the sail :-)

good winds to y'all

Re: cams on TR-4 10.0

I also have a small issue with my 7.6 TR4.

When I let off the downhaul in one quick release, the cams pop off, but the bottom cam also pops off the batten.  It's a struggle to get it back on, so I now release the downhaul a bit, pop off the bottom cam, then release the outhaul all the way popping off the remainder of the cams.

This has never happened with any other of my TR sails.

Not a big deal, but it does elimiate the cussing.  Otherwise, I love the sail.

Re: cams on TR-4 10.0

Hi Ken, I also have a TR-4 7.6 , it's my favorite alltime sail!

Same thing with the lower cam sticking but the batten doesn't go out of the cam when releasing outhaul.
I presume the cam is put on facing the right way up?

Maybe just put some tape on the batten part that enters the cam so it doesn';t pop to easy?

Re: cams on TR-4 10.0

just another small thx to y'all
put some mclube and tested the cams in the backyard
seemed better already\
also - when de-rigging manually removed the bottom cam first
that seemed to help also

thx again and lotsa luck for the cam / batten faux pas :-(
why the heck would the cam be on inversed ?

stupid question - does MS rig sails like TRs before shipping ??
have heard that Ezzy does

thx

Re: cams on TR-4 10.0

just a small follow-up ...

was out with the TR-4 10-oh in about 10 to 12 knots of wind on my AHD FF 160
rigged it up no issue
planed occasionally and had lotsa fun
cams popped on their own and sometimes with a pull or small gust
derigged with no issue either

ie it all worked out in time - did loosen batten under the boom - as i read elsewhere ...

do not race, but use the sail to get out in lo winds
tried an MS-2 and did not like it nearly as much as this TR-4 :-)

thanx to all for their comments and just to say - yes, patience does pay off with this sail :-)
i am lovin it :-)

Re: cams on TR-4 10.0

I don't think that the factory rigs the sails before shipping.
Good to hear that the TR-4 is working for you. I'm loving my TR-6.
No hassle just windsurfing :)
