Topic: Mast for Rebel 2.2

I just purchased a Rebel 2.2 for my 8 year old son.  The Gorge surf shop did not have a Rebel 310 RDM and sold me a Gastra Maverick 300 instead.  It is 30% carbon and super light, but seems a bit stiff.  The sail does not rig with much draft using the mast.  Is this an acceptable mast?

Also would you recommend the 3.0 as the next size up from the 2.2?  The 2.2 to 2.5 jump seems small.  Thanks for your help

Re: Mast for Rebel 2.2

the maverick mast should be fine. we actually mader the specs for that when we were with gaastra. as for draft, there is not much visual because the sail is so small and themast itself makes quite a bit of foil depth. you don't need much tension to set it right, just enough to make the sail look a little soft in the leech.

and yes, the 3.0 is a good way to go. they can learn into it. the 4.0 is more like a light wind slalom sail almost, rather than a bigger version of the smaller ones.

great to hear your young son is getting into it. like riding a bicycle, it will never leave him.
