Flat to choppy water with gusty or steady winds.

Boards are very impressive, especially with new C3 fins which are very good with these boards. Fins tested : 30 on 52. 30, 32 and 34 on 55, 32, 34 and 36 on 58.

For the 7.0, you can use at your size both 58 and 55 with 34 as a fin or 36 with th 58 if the wind is light. The bigger fin helps to lift the board over the shop and gives magic control and speed.

I clocked more than 36 knots on a broad reach with the 55/34 fin and 6.7 in a 20-25 knots of wind. I'm 86 kg. The speed is super steady and I was with a "slalom setting" which means more acceleration at low speed and average speed vs. pure top end speed.

[Post a reply] [Quote]

Topic : Impressions Carbon Art SL55 or Sl58
Started at 18th July 2008

Hosted by the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club in Martha’s Vineyard. The racing saw mostly light air and the most significant breeze on Friday. The principle race officer for the event was former World Windsurfing Champion Nevin Sayre. The Wednesday clinic was put on by senior instructor trainer, Britt Viehman, from Florida.

Gold fleet enjoyed a variety of wind conditions and race courses including some slalom downwind legs.

After nine races and one throwout, in first place overall for the gold fleet was local girl Solvig Sayre. Second was Austin Emer from Clearwater Florida.

Silver fleet introduced many youngsters to racing for the first time and featured reaching starts, gybing around a single mark and then reaching back to the finish.

Overall (14 competitors):
1) Solvig Sayre (10)
2) Austin Emer (18)
3) Alex Herring (28)

U19
1) Solvig Sayre
2) Alex Herring
3) Patrick Bryan (29)

U17
1) Austin Emer
2) Kaylen Vallentyne (74)
3) Nicole Bussard (97)

U15
1) Christopher Waldo (66)
2) Marion Lepert (66)

U12
1) Rasmus Sayre (50)
2) Elie Jordi (68)

Silver fleet (11 competitors, 10 races, two throwouts):
1) Nick Watts (13 points)
2) Eli Hanschka (15)
3) Ben Nivala (18)

Photos of the event are featured here:
http://web.mac.com/sailing/Site/ECJWC.html

Respectfully submitted,

Bryan McDonald
Windsurfing Task Force, Chairman
http://www.ussailing.org/News/2008/wind … kforce.asp

[Post a reply] [Quote]

Topic : East Coast Junior Windsurfing Championship
Started at 16th July 2008

No "sticky" at all. By the way: the board is so easy that I'm able to push 100% all of the time; this results in high average speed, and lets me use a less powerful and faster fin than I did on my previous Sonic95 (mostly Falcon 34, instead of SL2 34), which results in even higher ease and speed...
As for sail range, I think the sizes I use are at the extremes of the board's "competitive" range.

[Post a reply] [Quote]

Topic : Impressions Carbon Art SL55 or Sl58
Started at 18th July 2008

And wow it sets so nice - no wrinkles or anything just a smooth foil.

The wind on the beach were around 14-17 knots slowly picking up with gusts around 20. But I thought what the heck.... I'll give it a try just to see how it would handle in so much wind. So I got out and had two short runs with the sail.

There's no doubt that I would have been faster with my 11 m2 but I am very impressed with the light feeling ( almost like my "standard" 11 m2 TR-4 ) and how stable the sail felt.
The windstrength were much higher than the range I'll normally use the sail in (with my 80 kg). But it's nice to know that it's possible to handle the sail OK if the wind picks up during a race.

Can't wait to try the sail in it's intended windrange.

Aloha from a very happy XT owner :)

Thomas

[Post a reply] [Quote]

Topic : Fantastic TR-4 XT 12m2
Started at 19th July 2008

Typically as the wind ranges higher I go to the 4.2.

The Legend 4.7 is very smooth and easy but not super fast - which makes it the go to sail for wave sailing. The Switch is very smooth and super fast with race sail sensations. So, for cruising, my preference is the Switch for that direct, stable and go fast personality.

The twist and body tension of the Switch returns a linear range of power and confidence to go fast. The sail feels like it is always there for you to power out of a turn and holds a steady balance when wound up and pushed over the limit. Great sail designs and would be the choice of more sailors if they could experience that feeling.

[Post a reply] [Quote]

Topic : Sail for high wind "cruising"
Started at 14th July 2008
