Artur Szpunar started windsurfing in 1988, at age 11 in Kingston, Ontario and instantly fell in love with the sport. He sailed every day that he could on Lake Ontario, whether wading out through ice wearing a drysuit, or hanging on to a 3.7 in a snow squall. While still in school, he spent summers sailing in the Gorge. Artur first came to Maui 11 years ago and has been actively involved in the windsurf industry ever since. He is married and has a 3-year-old daughter.
Artur has been a member of the MauiSails design team for over 3 years now, working as the CAD manager and co-sail designer. Benefiting from a technical education and 20 years windsurfing experience, he plays an integral role in the evolution of the MauiSails designs. Artur is a skilled wavesailor and is able to apply his on-the-water expertise, together with team feedback, to make design adjustments that optimize the performance and feel of the sails. Artur uses advanced CAD and 3-D modeling software to prepare and analyze sail and parts designs. His attention to detail and scientific approach have helped MauiSails develop some original sail-shaping techniques that were first used in the revolutionary and highly successful TR-3 race sails and now benefit the entire sail range.
Artur also has artistic talent and is responsible for creating the sail graphics. His emphasis is on combining structural functionality with an original, stylish appearance. When not in the loft, Artur spends plenty of time testing the latest wave sails at his favorite breaks from Kuau to Hookipa. |
