AWT Quatro Desert Showdown

6th August 2012

It was my first time in San Carlos and first time in Mexico ever, driving was pretty long but we were at list 2 cars with the Quatro team so it was ok. When we arrived to San Carlos it was supposed to be flat almost the all week with maybe a little swell in the and of the week.

We had a little bit of waves just to do some stand up.. normally I don't really do stand up but now I'm getting more into it and I feel like I improve every session. During the flat I also discovered the mountain bike, it's sick! and Baja is the perfect place to do mountain biking, some time I was going twice a day.

The day before the end of the event the waves started picking up just a little bit with some logo hight set but it was really long between the set's. The head judge Matt Pritchard decided to start heats and I have to say that he made the good call because the pick of the swell was exactly when we had the 5 or 6 heat of pro.

During the semi final with Graham, Brawzinho and Levi I had the best wave of my trip, almost mast high for my 4.2 Mutant which is now definitely my favourite sails. It was pretty light wind side off shore, that the kind of condition that I feel really good on.

I was scared not to pass in the semi final because all the boy's were ripping but when I came of the water everyone told me "good job man! you are first in the heat" I was surprised but so stocked, I guess that last minute set saved me.

In the final I did my best and it was really close between Levi and I but I think the experience of Levi took it over. I'm really happy with this second place and that gave me the motivation to win in Peru which I'm on the way to go to train before the next contest.

This trip and contest was another good experience for my career.
