Dennis the Dutch Champion

11th October 2005

Dennis LittelAfter almost 30 races, I'm finally allowed to say that I'm Formula Windsurfing Dutch National Champion 2005!!!

The first 2 races in Almere this year I could manage to win easily. 3 days before the next event at 'De Grevelingendam' I received my new orange MauiSails TR-1 bullets and actually first sailed them during the DutchNational event. From that moment, I won race after race with big leads. The conditions were really nice as well. I was able to sail with 10.0, 11.0 and 12.0 so we had it all. After this event things already looked really good for the overall title, because we did 9 races and I finished1st in six of them and two 2nds. Ben van der Steen(Exocet - NP) took the other bullets and finished second.

After this event 'Hargen aan Zee' was waiting for us. Its at the dutchcoast and can be really nice for wave sailing (for dutch conditions.), but this weekend the wind gods were not with us, and we did 4 very light wind races. I didn't manage to win any race here, but i could stay in front of my competitors for the overall title. Joerie van Dijk (Fanatic -NP) became 1st, followed by Roy van Koolwijk (Fanatic) and I closed the top 3 for this weekend.

Now 'Medemblik' was the second last event on the calendar. Medemblik is on a lake in the North of The Netherlands. It was two days in light conditions again, and I had a nice fight with team mate Casper Bouman. With 3 races he managed to be in the lead after the first day with me behind in second. The day after there was a little bit more wind and then my TR-1's were motoring like nothing else. I won all 4 races with Casper taking the 2nd's. This also give me the overall event win for this weekend, with Casper in 2nd and Ron Ruiter (Fanatic - NP) in 3rd. With only 1 more event to go, things looked even better for the overall Dutch Champion 2005 title.

The last event took place at 'Vlieland', a really nice small Island in the North Sea. Unfortunatly the wind was weak again, but we still managed to do 5 races with really (strange) short courses. Luckily I was able to finish the tour by winning the very last race. And I'm really happy about that! So finally I got the title for the very first time, and I hope much more will follow !

I dedicate this title to my Dad, who gave me the power I needed...THANKS!
