6th August 2013

Event: Endless Summer Sport & Festival
Date: 1st-3rd august
Place: Sint Joris Baai
Organizers: Old school windsurfers
Categories: Windsurf, mountain biking, kite, fishing

This event toke place on the Island of Curacao which is 15 minuts flight from Bonaire.

After arriving back on bonaire from Fuerteventura on monday the 29th of july.  I quickly packed out my freestyle gears and packed in my slalom gears to take the flight to Curacao on the 31st.

I arrived just in time for the open ceremony and having all my gears making it to curacao was a great feeling. having small aircraft flying between the island that day I had to check in my gears early in the morning 6am, because they had to take the gears one by one. but luckily when I flew to curacao i had everything.

Endless Summer Sport & Festival

Day 1

9:30 skippers meeting. 10:00 first start of the slalom racing. Looking at the forecast and the wind seems pretty good for the Mauisails TR9xt 7.0 so i rigged that and with my Starboard Isonic 107 and Zfin 38cm ZSF model. Just when they started the wind go lighter and I didn't had enough wind power so after the jibe I had to pump a lot to get going so most of the other guys who where on their 7.8 sails where just quickly out and planing I finish 2nd but really close finish.
Second race
- I had A DNF because I thought that most people where over early but then the start boat crew said that it was a good start, it was kind of a weird situation but guess that I was wrong.
Third race - i step my game up to not have any more mistake, with being a bit underpowered and not having chance to get bigger sail size as we where doing back to back races, i made sure to get a perfect start and with clean wind i made the TR9xt 7.0 work till the finish line I was so far ahead that  I was duck jibing the last 2 marks.

Day 1 afternoon races

3 more races where complete in the afternoon. I decided to rig up the TR9xt 7.6  and stick with the 107 ISonic with the 38cm ZFIn. and with me having the perfect sail size for the conditions I got 1,1, and 2.
so with six races completed on the first day of the Endless Summer sport Festival (ESSF) I was already leading.

Day 2

Looking at the forecast in the morning it was supposed to be 25 knots. But arriving at the beach the wind was not as the forecast predicted 9:30 skippermeeting, 10:00 first slalom start better wind as the 1st day but with with gusty and shifty winds, I toke out the TR9xt 7.6 with the ISonc 107. it was just perfect gears. 3 races  where held in the morning and I had PMS,1,1 did the the first race over early as I was to eager to have a perfect start. but the last two morning races I kept it a bit relax and did 2x first place. In the afternoon we did 2 official races and with the wind getting lighter. the 3rd race the organizers decided to make it a fun race. I finish both races in 1st place and also won the Fun race. The fun race was an all classes starting together and we had to do 2 times the slalom course with going back upwind after the last slalom mark. Freestyles show At  5o'clock I did a freestyle session together with freestyle sailor as steven Max, Cheppi and Victor. The crowds where clapping hands and enjoying while we where doing the freestyle moves just couple of meter from the beach, Jeroen from Surf NL Magazine was also there to take picture. The day ended with a BBQ and live music on the beach.

Day 3

So much rain in the morning and with this made the wind got even lighter the postpone flag was up the whole morning. The first race started at 1:30,and with light wind but at times good gusts and pretty tricky cause you can be last at the first mark but can always get that better wind as the wind was really weird I had a really late bad start and finish 9th. 2nd race I had a perfect start down at the pin and was pointing the board straight to the mark and pushed a bit upwind to get better wind and speen while everyone was coming down on me, and losing speed. I won the 2nd race pretty far ahead and the third race was a fun race I also won this one by further ahead and having this comfortable feeling I was flying the whole course.

Price giving was held at 7o'clock on Saturday. With me winning this event it can sure give Mauisails, Starboard, Mystic  and myself a good exposure on this island. Enldess Summer sport & Festival had a great vibe and with the crew all being so friendly and made sure everything was just well organized i hope next year they will do it again and this can be a much bigger event.

Thank you guys.
