Costa Brava PWA World Cup by Taty Frans

31st May 2014

Registered board: Starboard ISonic 117, 107 & 87
Registered Sails: Mauisails TR-X 8.4, 7.7, 7.7, 6.6, 6.3, 5.5

On the first day: I was on my biggest gears 8.4 & 117 I was feeling so comfortable and I just had everything set up great to have great start and jibe and speed to have me going all the way to the winners final to finish a good 4th place. Nope I didn't expect that but so I did nailed that top 5 and it made me so confident. Hoping that the wind could have stay for the next days as me myself was so ready to get it going on. But the wind decided to shut down for 3 days.

Race 2: in the morning the wind was pretty strong so I toke my TR-X 6.3 and Isonic 87 and I did an easy pass to go to the next round while finishing 2nd behind cyril as the wind continue to be stable I didn't change my setup and stick to that same gears but just as the heat 11 was greened flag the wind got lighter and I was so under power that I had to pump a lot in each jibe to get going and that cost me to finish the 2nd race in 18th position.

Race3  : no more mistakes go big, TR-X 7.0 Isonic 107. The wind was strong gusty but being perfect powered up with me setup I had great board speed to be passing all my heats without any trouble dominating the jibes with ease and going to the winners final. Am I really going that fast to with those new sails and board I have that I even got 2nd place and staying ahead of AA the whole race. What a surprise.

Race 4: same gears as in race 3. First heat just having a super good start to stay ahead of Menegati the whole race and I knew I had this that I can easily go to the final, but the in the 2nd round the we started but only by going to the 3rd mark I heard the guys in the back screaming as the wind got lighter and some how below 7knots but how come as I was on my TR-X 7.0 still planing and they where on 7.8 or 8.2 and not making that effort to pump, so the heat got cancelled and after the resailed of the heat I started to much upwind and made it cost me to fight for the 4-5th with Cedric hordes, and after I was 4th going to the 4th mark I made that last jibe to careful and he got on the inside and I lost wind so he got ahead of me to finish in 4ht leaving 5th in the heat to get another 18th place DAM!

Race 5: how stupid could I be, knowing that I have enough speed I should have just take it easy and not pushing but instead I was so eager to comeback strong, Antoine was pushing me upwind while I wanted to go down wind to just hit the pin at zero but AA pushed upwind and we both cross the start line 1sec to early to get over early. That's 3 bad races and I knew I had lost that top 10 place getting that over early.

I could be pissed off at myself but at the same time I knew better. This is the first event of the year I learned I saw I felt the excitement. I have such good gears, I am so in love with all my sail size that I choose for this season. I am all ready looking up to the next event and now I will just go back home for 3 weeks get some extra motivation and mind set ready for Turkmenistan. That 4th place and 2nd place with the board speed and jibes I have it gave me a good feeling.

Hey, 13th place in the first event is not a bad sign. So I guess a top 10 for this season looks pretty okay. The new TR-X Mauisails are amazingly light easy handling and very fast. I got this!!

Take care
