PWA Cabo Verde 2008

19th March 2008

Whew.... Cabo Verde 2008. What a score! The event is over and we are extremely proud of the efforts put in by our Angulo Cabo Verde team and Cabo Verde government to organize the second edition of Sal 2008 Cabo Verde Windsurfing.

PWA Cabo Verde 2008

We scored the first day of contest with mast high Ponta Preta and although I was mentally and physically drained from the organization and running the trials event, I managed to scrape into the final four. Getting a good night's sleep that night allowed me to come back powered up for the next day's finals. The smaller surf made for some difficult situations for all four finalists and we were really jockeying for position and trying to get the few sets coming in. I had some really solid waves with probably the biggest moves, but Kauli got a couple slightly longer rides which turned the judges decision in his favor.

PWA Cabo Verde 2008

Kauli took a well deserved first place and considering the pressure and extra curricular activities that go hand in hand with an event in my backyard, I was pleased to get second.

PWA Cabo Verde 2008

As the boys got underway with the double elimination at "little Ho'okipa" on the backside the west coast. I got more and more rested and grew a strong hunger to fight back through the doubles as I did the previous year. Alas, the conditions were not to be and at a really groovy, good vibe, family oriented style closing party all the champions mixed it up with the politicians and competitive windsurfing in Cabo Verde is looking like it has a solid future

Two days after event and I'm flying off to Boston. Taking off flying right over the west coast and Ponta Preta. It is sunny, mast high, windy and nobody out. The circus has left town and Ponta Preta is holding her own. The Legend lives on!
