First day of US Open
27th May 2006
With winds gusting over 25 knots at Corpus Christi Texas the US Open fleet headed out for some Formula racing around noon. Devon Boulon started where he left off in 2005 and won the first race, with Jimmy Diaz in second, and Wilhelm Sherman in third. Devon ended up winning all three course races today. After three races, Devon is leading with Jimmy in second, Wilhelm in third, Seth Besse in fourth and Phil McGain in fifth. As the winds picked up in the afternoon, the sailors rigged their slalom equipment and got right into downwind slalom. Right out of the blocks was Phil McGain sporting his new TR2 6.6 and 58cm wide Carbon Art slalom board, leading off the start with Gonzalo close in second, and Jimmy in third. Phil won the first heat, with Jimmy in second, and Gonzalo in third.
In the next heat it was Jimmy Diaz leading at the first mark, but he was passed by McGain as they came out of the first jibe mark. McGain went on to catch another bullet with Diaz on second. Two more rounds were completed with McGain winning all the heats.
