Femke wins Dutch Wave Championship

7th September 2006

Femke wins Dutch Wave ChampionshipFinally this year there was a Dutch champion title to win in the wave discipline. On September 3rd both men and woman gathered at Zandvoort the famous World Cup site from the 80’s for the event to take place. The first heat of the day started at 12.30. The first men heat started at 12.30pm and then later the womens heat got under way.

Femke wins Dutch Wave Championship

Femke decided to take her 4.5m Legend and 71l guerrilla board which was the perfect combination for the conditions. In the couple of runs we made earlier we already found out that the current was unbelievably strong. This made it even hard to stand in the water and so crashing was a definitely MUST NOT!

This actually was what happened to me in the first heat. So I lost. Of course I wasn’t going to leave it with that. The next heat I went out twice as hard and gave it more. This time I won.

Me and Julia were now in 1st place together. There were two more heats to sail. I really wanted to win so I gave it my best. I tried all my tricks and as many wave rides as could within 8 minutes. The current got a lot less in the last heat so that made the sailing a whole lot easier. The waves were maybe not perfect but it was definitely good fun. So both of the last heats I came in first and that made me Dutch Champion in the end and of course very happy.

The wind was strong the whole day, even the guys were on 4.7. My combination was so nice that I could keep sailing it the whole day.
