McGain Wins Neil Pryde Slalom
18th June 2006
Most sailors were holding onto 5.9’s and
6.3’s, but it was Phil McGain bringing his A game, taking 3 easy victories out
of 4 in the Mens 40-49 division. Alex Aguera finished second and Kevin Ozee in
third.
The Pro division was stacked with current
PWA Slalom 42 World Champion Micah Buzianis, Alex Aguera, Kevin Ozee and
veteran Phil McGain to name a few. It
was Micah who took victory, closely followed by Phil McGain, who also won the
last final, and in third place, it was the local hero, Alex Aguera.
Other notable MauiSails sailors were Baker Grant, winning the under-14 class on a 4.7 TR2, and Ashley Baxter, second in the women's junior division. We'll see Skylar Haywood up there soon too, as he was going fast but sails in the toughest division of all, the men's 18 (even though he's not 18 yet). He is racing a league up to push himself to get better.
Mike Yasak, Dave Weeks, and John Monroe all had outstanding performances with the TR-2 and were especially talking about the acceleration out of the turns as a favorite characteristic of these new sails.
